終助詞(Sentence-Final Particles)
In Japanese, some particles appear at the end of a sentence. These are called 終助詞 — sentence-final particles.
They don’t change the core meaning of the sentence — but they show the speaker’s attitude or feeling.
Here are some common examples:
- 明日は 日曜日ですか。 — turning a statement into a question.
- 明日は 日曜日ですよ。 — adding assertion or emphasis, like “just so you know.”
- 明日は 日曜日ですね。 — adding agreement, like “isn’t it?” or “right?”
These little particles make Japanese sound more natural and friendly in conversation.
You’ll hear them all the time in daily speech — so it’s good to get used to their tone and nuance.
