終助詞しゅうじょし — sentence-final particles”

In Japanese, some particles appear at the end of a sentence. These are called 終助詞しゅうじょし — sentence-final particles.

They don’t change the core meaning of the sentence — but they show the speaker’s attitude or feeling.

  • 明日あした日曜日にちようびですか。
    → Turning a statement into a question.
  • 明日あした日曜日にちようびですよ。
→ Adding assertion or emphasis, like “just so you know.”
  • 明日あした日曜日にちようびですね。
→ Adding agreement, like “isn’t it?” or “right?”

These little particles make Japanese sound more natural and friendly in conversation. You’ll hear them all the time in daily speech — so it’s good to get used to their tone and nuance.
